Swansea City transfer headlines as Leicester City 'emphatically follow' Joel Piroe, Hannes Wolf's vow and Flynn Downes latest

Your Swansea City headlines for Monday, April 11.

Foxes linked with Piroe

Leicester City have been linked with a transfer swoop for Joel Piroe.

The striker has enjoyed a fine debut season at Swansea and reached the 20-goal mark with his brace against Derby County last time out. And Dutch media outlet Voetbal International report that the Foxes 'emphatically follow' the 22-year-old's progress in south Wales ahead of a potential transfer move for the forward in the summer.

Speaking after the triumph over Derby, Piroe - who is contracted to Swansea until the summer of 2024 - admitted he was thoroughly enjoying life under Russell Martin. “Of course I really enjoy my time here," responded Piroe when asked if he wants to stay at the club.

"We hope to finish as strong as possible to show the fans that the trust they had in us, we are really fighting for them." You can read the full interview with Piroe here.

PSV Eindhoven will earn a percentage of any transfer fee Swansea receive for Piroe should the striker leave the club.

Wolf thriving under Martin

Hannes Wolf has vowed to add more end product to his game over the final stages of the campaign.

The Austrian turned in a sublime individual display which included an assist as Swansea beat Derby County 2-1 last time out. Such were his efforts, Wolf was singled out by boss Russell Martin in the dressing room after the triumph over the Rams. You can read more on that here.

And Wolf believes Swansea's style of play is a perfect fit for his attributes.

“I am really enjoying it. We are playing such good football. The team and the coach are amazing. Everything fits together well,” he told the Swansea website.

“Most of the time I was like a striker (at Borussia Monchengladbach) because I was always so high with the ball and here, we have a lot of the ball and that means there are a lot of opportunities to be involved.

“I just want to score more and get more assists.”

Downes latest

Russell Martin expects Flynn Downes to be available for Swansea's clash with Barnsley on Good Friday.

The midfielder was absent for the wins over Millwall and Derby due to a knee injury. He returned to training the day before the success against Derby but was rested once again as a precautionary measure.

But Martin heaped praise on Jay Fulton who has impressed in the absence of Downes who could well feature next weekend - with Swansea facing Reading on Easter Monday.

"He's still a bit sore. There was just no point in risking it," said Martin. "He could get away with carrying on playing on it, it's one of those injuries, but there's just no point risking it, especially when Jay did so well during the week. We don't want to make it worse.

"I'm pretty confident he'll be involved next week. It's getting better slowly but surely. We just want to get to a point where he doesn't feel it at all really. I think he came back for the Cardiff game still feeling it, it was such an important game for us.

"Jay had done brilliantly [against Millwall] and he deserved to stay in. There was no point in having Flynn on the bench. It's good that he's trained, and hopefully he'll keep progressing now."

Dhanda's India hope

Yan Dhanda is hopeful of representing India at international level in the future.

The Swansea attacker - who was born in Birmingham - has featured at youth level for England but is of Indian heritage.

“I want to represent India and believe I can really help the national team,” Dhanda told the Times of India. “I have been following Indian football and seeing the recent results which include losses against Bahrain and Belarus. They should be winning such games.

"I being there can improve results and benefit the players as well. Playing with better players always makes people better.”

Dhanda's Swansea contract expires in the summer. He is expected to be released having been restricted to just seven first team appearances this season, with only three of those coming in the Championship.
