Swansea City poised to sign new defender from Belgium as significant coach update also emerges

Swansea City are poised to complete the loan signing of Matthew Sorinola.

The Swans have been determined to bolster their left wing-back options and became increasingly accepting that a second loan for Hannes Wolf was off the cards. They are close to adding 21-year-old Sorinola to their ranks.

Sorinola - currently at Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise - previously played at Russell Martin's former club MK Dons, having started his career at Fulham.

It comes amid news that Colin Calderwood is no longer set to join Swansea's coaching staff, WalesOnline understands. The Swans have been on the lookout for a replacement for Luke Williams following his departure earlier this year.

Matt Gill has stepped up from his technical development coach role to assistant boss, with Calderwood - who worked with Martin at Norwich - previously expected to be added to the backroom team. However, it has been confirmed that the Scot is now set to stay with Northampton Town.

Swansea have already announced Andy Parslow as their new set-piece coach while Tom Barnden has been appointed as the new head of performance.

News of Sorinola's impending arrival comes after the club added Harry Darling, Wasiri Williams and Nathan Wood to their ranks. They are also hopeful of recruiting Ben Blythe and Remy Mitchell to their youth set-up following the conclusion of their Pennyhill Park training camp.
