Swansea City news as West Brom place Russell Martin on manager short list and Roberts over Burnley struggles

Your Swansea City headlines on Wednesday, October 12.

Baggies eye Martin

West Brom have listed Russell Martin as a potential replacement for Steve Bruce, according to The Athletic.

The Baggies have endured a torrid start to the campaign, winning just one of their opening 13 Championship fixtures. Their latest defeat leaves them in the division's relegation zone with more than a quarter of the season gone.

It prompted the hierarchy at The Hawthorns Stadium into parting company with Bruce, and it's claimed that the Midlands outfit have identified Swansea boss Martin as a possible candidate for the managerial vacancy.

They are also said to be looking at former Huddersfield Town boss Carlos Corberan who is now out of work after being sacked by Olympiacos.

Roberts opens up on Burnley struggles

Connor Roberts admits he struggled to adjust to Burnley's playing style when he joined the club from Swansea last year.

The Welshman endured a tough start to life at Turf Moor and was ultimately relegated from the Premier League in his first season with the Clarets. However, he has gone on to establish himself as a key figure in Lancashire and is thriving under the leadership of Vincent Kompany who has drastically changed the club's playing style.

And Roberts says his boyhood club Swansea fully prepared him for Kompany's methods. "I think it is more normal to me to play this way," Roberts told our sister title LancsLive.

"When I came last season it was a different way of playing and something I maybe struggled to adjust to. I did things that perhaps weren't normal to me whereas this season it is perhaps a little bit more normal to take up the positions that I am and be a bit more patient on the ball.

"I have grown up at Swansea and always played with the ball from a young age so I am always comfortable. I am used to it having done it for many years at Swansea.

"I am seeing more of the ball compared to last year, we are not playing against as good teams as last year but we are playing a different way with players who want to keep hold of the ball and enjoy having the ball.

"We are in a period of transition at this club and it has never really been done for a good few years playing this type of way. In the long run playing this way is better and it will hopefully bring success."

Burnley host Swansea at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon. Kick-off is at 3pm.

Joseph's expectation

Kyle Joseph believes his best form is still ahead of him at Oxford United.

The striker joined the League One side on loan for the duration of the current campaign and has scored three goals in 12 appearances in all competitions for the club so far this term. He has operated in various roles on the pitch and believes his versatility has been a major plus.

“I’ve really enjoyed it since the first day I came in, I’ve been made to feel welcome and part of the family, and that’s all you can ask for," he told the Witney Gazette. “I’ve settled in really easily and settled in with all the lads.

“I can’t thank the club enough for what they’ve done for me while I’ve been here. I know there’s a lot more from me to come, and hopefully I’ll be able to show that in the next couple of games.

“As a number nine, you want to be playing up top but it’s good to have options to play across the front three. That’s part of the reason for coming here, to get that experience playing games but also playing in a position where I can affect it even more.

“Sometimes as a nine you’re not going to affect it as much as you are if you’re on the wing or if you’re playing a bit deeper, but it’s all a new experience for me and it’s going to help me.”

Silverstein to attend fans' forum

Jake Silverstein will attend Swansea's latest fans' forum which takes place later this month.

The American will travel to south Wales ahead of the club's Championship clash with Reading and will join head coach Russell Martin, chief executive Julian Winter and captain Matt Grimes in answering questions from supporters.

The latest forum event will take place at the Swansea.com Stadium's Gower Suite on Thursday, October 20. Entry to the two-hour forum, which will run from 7pm to 9pm, is free of charge.
