Sven Botman has revealed that he wants to leave Lille to play in a 'nice competition' - and the Dutchman is certainly well-aware of Newcastle United's interest.
Newcastle tried to sign Botman in January and the centre-back was keen on the move despite the Magpies' perilous position in the table. Lille, however, were understandably reluctant to sell in the mid-season window when there was so little time to secure a replacement.
Newcastle ended up signing Brighton defender Dan Burn instead but the Magpies are still interested in Botman who, at 22, is someone who can grow with the club in the years to come. Given the ages of Newcastle's current centre-backs - Jamaal Lascelles (28), Dan Burn (30), Fabian Schar (30) and Federico Fernandez (33) - there is certainly a desire to bring in a younger option moving forward.
