Suzanne Jackson joins gym and takes up meditation after finding her 'lacking energy constantly'

Suzanne Jackson joined the gym and has taken up meditation.

A sentence I was pretty sure 12 months ago I wouldn’t be typing. But here I am. Over the past couple of years, I essentially neglected my physical health.

I was an Irish dancer when I was younger, and I was lucky enough to keep a slim frame from that, I believe, so I just ate and drank what I liked with not a lot of regard for what I was actually fuelling my body with.

But like all things, they eventually catch up with you. It certainly did for me, and I found myself lacking energy constantly.

I’ve implemented a new routine for my mornings, and it has been game-changing for me.

So now I wake up early, I don’t look at my phone (this is a big one for me as it is glued to my hand usually), quick shower and straight out the door to the gym.

I do about a 45-60 min workout followed by a five-minute stretch and a five-minute meditation.

The workout is for my body and the meditation is for my mind. Meditation is not easy, in fact it’s harder than the workout really.

But I’m doing it because we get one body and one mind, and essentially, one life and I don’t want to regret not looking after myself.

As some of you may know, myself and my husband Dylan came to Portugal earlier in the year and we have had the privilege of spending the entire summer there.

With remote working becoming such a normal thing, we decided why not spend a summer in a place that we both love, and we are actually hoping to purchase a property of our own in Portugal (watch this space ).

Because of the new routine this summer, it allowed me time to slow down and really re-evaluate the way that I was living.

I’m sure you get it, we can all get so wrapped up in work, become beaten down with deadlines and day to day stresses and I decided to really dedicate time myself and to focus on implementing this new routine.

I understand that working out isn’t for everyone, it certainly wasn’t for me. But my whole mindset has changed towards it.

I love how it makes me feel. Work can get very stressful and sometimes my mind can become so overwhelmed with all the deadlines and product development that I can’t think straight.

For me, an hour in the gym to let out all the frustrations and boost those endorphins and my mind is a different space, working out allows me to declutter my mind, I even find that I can be more creative after a workout.

Initially, I didn’t begin working out to change my physique, but it has led me to make better food choices which in turn has helped my confidence.

For the first time in a long time, I am proud of how I have been looking after myself and it is most definitely something I want to keep up.

Now, as I prepare to get back to Dublin, will it be a challenge for me to keep it up?

I know it will be harder to get up early when the colder mornings come in but it’s the getting up and getting there that’s hard.

Once the workout is done you feel amazing and that feeling really is worth it, I believe.

I might start a challenge on Instagram to keep myself accountable, would you join me?!
