City courthouse, APS office evacuated after suspected bomb threats

Separate suspected bomb threats prompted evacuations at two government locations in Canberra on Monday afternoon.

The ACT courthouse in Civic was evacuated after a report about 3.10pm on September 14.

A witness on Knowles Place said people were still leaving the building about 3.30pm and two police cars had closed access to Knowles Place.

Police officers remain stationed at front while others searched the court complex.

This followed another suspected bomb threat reported about 2.45pm at the Services Australia office on Chandler Street in Belconnen.

The building, which is next to Margaret Timpson Park, was evacuated as a precaution and people were asked to avoid the area.

About 4.40pm, an ACT Policing spokeswoman confirmed both areas had been swept and people were allowed to re-enter the city courthouse and the Belconnen building.

She said no suspicious items were found at either locations and the areas were deemed safe for use.

"Police don't believe the [hoax] incidents are related," the spokeswoman said.
