POLICE believe the suspect in the rape of a 16-year-old student in Dundee was captured on CCTV.
The teenager was approached by a man in the Cowgate area of the city between 1am and 1.30am, before being subjected to what police have described as a “serious sexual assault”.
Officers say they have identified the suspect as a man aged around 20, of slim build and average height.
He was wearing a beige/khaki jacket, a black T-shirt, dark trousers and light-brown boots at the time of the incident.
Detective inspector Graeme Wishart – who is leading the inquiry – said a grainy image of the man believed to be responsible was captured on CCTV.
The detective said: "It's the very early stages of the inquiry, but the main positives are the initial CCTV trawls.
"We obviously have a sighting of the person responsible but we need to develop that into getting his identification."
He added: "The two friends had been socialising and were arranging their own ways home.
"The male spoke to both of them and then the friend left the area. He wasn't known to them prior to this."
Police are asking anyone with any information to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 0335 of November 10.
Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
