A deadly car ramming incident at a German market has left authorities searching for a motive. According to Dr. Horst Nopens, Head of the Magdeburg Public Prosecutor’s office, the suspect may have been dissatisfied with Germany’s treatment of Saudi refugees. However, Nopens emphasized that a definitive motive is yet to be determined.
The perpetrator, who is believed to have acted alone, has been detained and questioned. The next course of action involves the public prosecutor’s office applying for an arrest warrant to place the suspect in custody.
Nopens mentioned the possibility of the suspect's dissatisfaction over the treatment of Saudi Arabian refugees in Germany, but stressed that further investigation is required to confirm this theory.
Earlier statements from Germany’s interior minister characterized the suspect as Islamophobic. It is reported that the suspect may have assisted Saudis, particularly women, in leaving the country.
Nopens indicated that the suspect could potentially face charges of five counts of murder and 205 counts of attempted murder.
