Suspect detained after triple knife attack on Paris metro

A man has been arrested after three women were attacked with a knife on the metro in Paris, according to the capital's prosecutor's office.

French police detained a man suspected of carrying out the attacks in three different stations on Friday evening.

According to police sources, the three women were ‌stabbed at Republique, Arts ‌et Metiers and Opera stations between 4.15pm and 4.45pm local time.

It is understood that the suspect, a man in his mid-20s, fled the scene and was then arrested at his home, with officers using surveillance-camera footage and tracking his mobile phone to locate him, according to prosecutors.

The women were given medical attention by firefighters, and they sustained only minor injuries, two of them to their backs and thighs, according to Le Parisien.

A witness told local media: “There was quite a lot of blood; it was a pretty deep cut”.

The prosecutor's office said their wounds were not life-threatening.

The official Parisian police account on X posted: “Thanks to the immediate action of the emergency services, the suspected individual has been apprehended.

“I extend all my wishes for a prompt recovery to the 3 victims who were slightly injured and taken in charge by the emergency services, whom I also salute.”
