Bollywood actor Sushmita Sen's fans were taken aback when the actor broke the news of her health on social media.
The actor took to social media to share that she suffered a heart attack few days before. Currently her angioplasty has been done and the stent has been placed.
Angioplasty is a medical procedure in which a balloon is used to stretch and open up a blocked artery. This involves inserting a small mesh tube, which is medically referred to as a stent. After the surgery the stent is left inside the body as a permanent solution to blocked arteries. A stent can either be a metal mesh or made of fabric or silicone or a combination of materials.
Angioplasty is also known as balloon angioplasty and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty. It is done as a surgical measure to deal with atherosclerosis or the condition where fatty plaques are build up in the blood vessels. This treatment method is mostly implemented where the blockage is more than 50%.
Heart attack is a medical emergency in which blood flow to the heart stops. This is usually caused by a blood clot. Without the abundant supply of blood the tissues die. Heart attack is characterized by signs like fatigue, lightheadedness, abnormal heartbeat, anxiety and pain in the chest and limbs and also in the jaw.
Sharing a picture of her hugging her father, on Instagram, the actor wrote: "“Keep your heart happy & courageous, and it’ll stand by you when you need it the most Shona” (Wise words by my father @sensubir )
I suffered a heart attack a couple of days back…Angioplasty done…stent in place…and most importantly, my cardiologist reconfirmed ‘I do have a big heart’
