Susanna Reid shares safety plea to ITV Good Morning Britain co-star as he marks milestone in Ukraine

Susanna Reid has implored her Good Morning Britain co-star to 'stay safe' as he marked a milestone while in Ukraine.

The presenter and her co-hosts - from Richard Madeley to Adil Ray - have spent the last week bringing viewers the latest on the Russiann invasion.

The ITV news programme has reporters on the ground, including in the capital Kyiv.

Among those is GMB's chief correspondent Richard Gaisford who, on Tuesday, celebrated his 50th birthday.

Taking to Twitter, Susanna re-shared a Tweet that featured a photo of Richard holding up a pudding with '50' candles lit to her thousands of followers.

"Happy Birthday Richard - spending your half century reporting from Ukraine," she wrote.

"Stay safe and keep up the excellent work with your team," Susanna, 51, added with a string of heart emojis.

In his own message, Richard had simply written: "So there it is. Half a century. Milestone achieved."

He then added another photo alongside his team out in Ukraine.

"Sad not to be at home with my wonderful family, but lucky to be surrounded by such a supportive and caring team," he commented while holding up two birthday cards.

But it wasn't all celebrations as he then told his followers: "And now an air raid warning, to round off a memorable day," before sharing photos of the team in what looks like a hotel.

Piers Morgan was among those sending Richard birthday wishes, writing: "Happy 50th mate!"

Ben Shephard said: "Happy Birthday Richard glad you’ve had cake!!!"

"Happy Birthday to you. Outstanding journalist! Informative, compassionate. @GMB are very lucky to have you. I hope you can get home to your family very soon. Thank you for bringing these news stories to us," @NicolaG54212315 shared.

GMB viewers shared their concerns for Richard last week when he was forced into protective gear while giving his latest report live on the show.

Richard was speaking to Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard when there was disruption as bomb sirens began to sound.
