Susanna Reid says she 'got in trouble' as Matt Hancock called a 'd***head' live on GMB

Susanna Reid has said she ‘got into trouble’ after she was forced to apologise live on air when a guest on the show took aim at Matt Hancock for joining the I’m A Celebrity 2022 line-up.

Journalist Andrew Pierce swore in the ITV studio after the former Health Secretary was confirmed to have touched down in Australia ahead of the new series.

The 44-year-old Conservative MP is set to head into the jungle as a latecomer this week, joining the remaining nine celebrities, after Love Island ’s Olivia Attwood was forced to exit the camp due to medical reasons.

GMB discussed the new addition to the series when it was announced and the discussion turned to whether there was anything good about Mr Hancock being on the show, when Andrew Pierce slammed the MP as a "d******d".

The Mirror's Associate Editor Kevin Maguire was joined by The Mail's Andrew Pierce on Tuesday morning as they spoke with Susanna and Ed Balls who were hosting the latest show and reflected on the furore surrounding the comments.

The Good Morning Britain studio was discussing the latest episode of I’m A Celebrity, as host Ed said the nation were “waiting with bated breath” for Mr Hancock, as he added: “It’s horrifying.”

Andrew replied: “I can’t decide whether I’m going to vote him to do the Bushtucker Trials or just get him out as quickly as possible, because we want him humiliated, don’t we?”

Susanna then quipped: “We know you do Andrew, because you’ve got a certain term for him.”

Smiling, he replied: “Yes I got into trouble over that last week,” before Susanna quickly interjected saying: “You got into trouble? I got into trouble! The headlines suggested that I had said the word you used.”

Andrew said: “I got a lot of mail from the Daily Mail about that and people were agreeing with me.”

Kevin Maguire next to him joked: “There’s no way any court would ever convict him for slander, is there?”

This comes after campmates – including Boy George, Sue Cleaver, Owen Warner, Scarlette Douglas, Mike Tindall, Charlene White, Chris Moyles, Jill Scott, Babatúndé Aléshé and Olivia Attwood – began their journeys into the jungle during a special launch show on Sunday, which included a skydive and other challenges.

The celebrities arrived at their various locations dressed in their glam outfits as they met with hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly, before they were put up to their first tasks.
