Susanna Reid emotional as she pays tribute to Fulham fan who died in the stands

Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid was visibly emotional on Monday's show as she paid tribute to a football fan who died over the weekend.

On Saturday, it was confirmed that Paul Parish had passed away after suffering a heart attack in the stands at Craven Cottage.

The Whites supporter collapsed in the Hammersmith End during his side's Championship clash with Blackpool.

Medics from both clubs rushed to his aid and he received treatment in the stands, with other supporters providing privacy with flags.

The match was paused while this was ongoing and the players left the pitch and returned to their dressing rooms, on the orders of referee Peter Bankes.

Susanna, 51, was keen to mention Paul's daughter Clare who had posted a heartfelt thread on social media following the sudden death of her dad.

Clare began her post by writing: "This thread is something I never thought I would be writing when I woke up yesterday morning and I hope my numb mind can muster the words to convey some of what we as a family are feeling today. The first and only thing to say, really, is THANK YOU.

"Thank you to everyone who helped my Dad & family yesterday. From the steward I shouted frantically at to get medical help, to all our Hammersmith end family who alerted the players & medics to the emergency that was unfolding with my Dad, to the off duty policemen, Tom & his pal."

As Susanna continued reading out some of Clare's tweets, it was clear that she was feeling overcome with emotion by the words.

"Thank you to the off-duty doctor in the green tee-shirt who was dripping in perspiration after trying so hard to save my wonderful, beautiful Dad's life. Thank you to the on and off pitch medics of @BlackpoolFC & @FulhamFC who who helped revive my Dad after his first arrest.

"To the fans who held the flags to shield my Dad, the crowd who helped clear the gangway to allow Dad the best care possible. The Fulham client team who helped us cope emotionally, the lovely stewards who were just there for us & the steward who made me eat 1/2 a kit kat for energy."

After reading the tweets, Susanna said: "I mean, everybody, absolutely remarkable that somebody has that within them. Our love to you Clare, and all your family."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV Hub.
