Survey into Castle Douglas active travel options extended

A survey into active travel options in Castle Douglas has been extended.

People originally only had until the start of the week to give their views on plans to carry out work at the roundabout near Tesco, which aims to make it easier for people to walk and cycle.

And its part of a wider project which could see a one-way system introduced.

Following concern about the lack of time to respond, the survey – being run by consultants Stantec – has now been extended to this weekend.

Castle Douglas and Crocketford councillor, Pauline Drysdale, said: “I was contacted by local businesses and organisations with regards to the fact that the survey response time was too tight.

“Officers acted promptly and the survey has now been extended until Sunday, July 9 at 5pm . Please access the survey on https://tinyurl.com/CastleDouglasActiveTravel to make your views known.

“The survey takes a couple of minutes to complete and will be used to create concept designs for stage two of engagement.

“Alongside my fellow councillors, Iain Howie and John Young we need to ensure that business owners, our community groups and local people are fully consulted and that people have time to respond.

“Parking and active travel are an integral part of life in and around Castle Douglas as it is such a rural area with limited public transport options.”

Councillor Howie added: “I would encourage everyone to participate and make their views known.”

The three councillors have previously expressed concern about the price tag of £50,000 purely for design options.

Stantec have been tasked by the council to come up with designs that will “create a fully accessible junction which will connect key destinations to existing facilities, providing a more vibrant environment for residents, businesses and visitors”.

Paper copies of the survey are available at Castle Douglas Swimming Pool and there will be in-person sessions once Stantec come up with designs.
