Supreme Court asks Noida Authority to pay Rs 100 crore to land owner in 6 weeks

NOIDA: The Supreme Court has directed Noida Authority to pay a compensation of Rs 100 crore to a man who had bought two plots totalling 7,400 sq m in Chhalera Bangar village in 1997. The authority was asked to pay the amount in six weeks. Reddy Veerana, the petitioner, had purchased the two plots from a villager for Rs 1 crore. He alleged that soon after the land was handed over to him, officials of the authority started “troubling” him over the possession.

Veerana filed a civil suit in a trial court, seeking a permanent injunction so that the authority “does not interfere”. The authority had argued in court that the plots Veerana had bought were in the middle of a commercial development hub and so the possession by him was illegal. The court ruled in favour of Veerana and restrained the authority from taking possession of the land.
