Supreme Court allows Trump to implement mail-in voting restrictions

  • Under the executive order, states must compile eligible voter lists using federal administration data, preventing the Postal Service from mailing ballots to unlisted voters.
  • Lower federal courts had previously blocked the executive order, citing the high risk of voter disenfranchisement and administrative chaos close to Election Day.
  • A bipartisan coalition of election officials and state attorneys general warned the ruling could cause widespread confusion and wrongly remove millions of eligible voters.
  • Dissenting from the majority opinion, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson warned that the decision needlessly injects chaos and uncertainty into the upcoming elections.
