Supplies have been restored after a 12-inch water main burst in Hamilton.
Road users were alerted to major road traffic management following the incident on Tuesday morning (June 13).
Engineers attended and quickly isolated the burst main, located at the junction of Quarry Street and Duke Street, which was affecting normal supplies for some customers in the area.
Scottish Water limited the number of customers impacted by Tuesday’s incident by rezoning the supply to another part of the network and tankering water into the network.
They also hand-delivered bottled water to over 500 properties that were affected.
In order to carry out the repair safely, Quarry Street and Duke Street were closed and diversions were put in place for the duration of the repair and reinstatement works.
Those repairs were completed at 8pm on Tuesday and Scottish Water advised some customers may experience temporary discoloured water. If so, they are advised to allow their cold water kitchen to tap to run at reduced pressure until this runs clear.
Scottish Water started the reinstatement of the area today (Wednesday) and said they expected to remove the road closures and traffic management by tomorrow (Thursday).
A Scottish Water spokeswoman said: “We apologise to customers affected and to those impacted by road closures which are needed to enable us to complete all the work required.”
