Ah yes, the giving season and a time of new beginnings. Best get all that bad behaviour out the way before those New Year’s resolutions become entrenched in law, or something. Also, best to do your Christmas shopping as early as sell-by dates allow because your local supermarket might not be open on those all-important dates for last-minute panic purchases.
If you’re truly a well-prepared Christmas expert, you might have already booked in a delivery slot with your favourite local supermarket and are feeling well and truly smug about it.

Sainsbury’s Christmas and New Year Opening Times
The majority of Sainsbury’s supermarkets will be open for extended hours, from 6:00-23:00, between December 21 - December 23.
They’ll be open on Christmas Eve from 6:00-19:00, but will be closed on Christmas Day,
Most Sainsbury’s supermarkets will be open on Boxing Day between 10:00-17:0. On December 27, most stores will be open from 8:00-20:00.
On New Year’s Eve, they’ll be open from 7:00-19:00, but convenience store branches will close at 21:00. They’ll also be open on New Year’s Day between 10:00 and 16:00.
As always, hours will inevitably vary across branches, so Sainsbury’s advises customers to double-check their store hours.

Marks & Spencer Christmas and New Year Opening Times
Most Marks & Sparks branches will be open on New Year’s Day – score! However, it’s best to double-check the opening hours of your local branch in the run up to the festive season.

Aldi Christmas and New Year Opening Times
In the run up to the festive season, Aldi will be running extended opening hours. On weekdays between December 19 – 23, Aldi stores will be open from 7:00 – 22:00. No excuses not to get the shop done, then.
They’ll be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Waitrose & Partners Christmas and New Year Opening Times
Waitrose festive hours vary from store to store, so it’s important to check with your local branch using their handy store finder below.
Most stores will be open for extended hours in the run up to Christmas Eve. However, you can expect Waitrose to be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. A small selection of stores will have differing opening hours on New Year’s Day, but most will be closed.

Lidl Christmas and New Year Opening Times
Lidl is also offering extended opening hours in the run-up to Christmas and New Year’s. From December 19 – December 23 on Monday – Friday, stores will be open from 7:00- 22:00. They’ll also be open on Christmas Eve from 7:00-18:00.
Lidl stores will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Opening and closing times will nevertheless vary across stores, so Lidl are still urging customers to check their local branch’s opening hours.

Asda Christmas and New Year Opening Times
Asda will be open on Christmas Eve from 6:00-19:00 but will be closed on Christmas Day. They will, however, be open on Boxing Day – unlike most stores – from 9:00-17:00.
On December 27, most stores will be open from 8:00-20:00. In the run up to New Year’s normal opening hours will apply, but on New Year’s Eve, they’ll be open from 6:00-19:00.
Asda will be open on New Year’s Day with normal hours.
Times may vary at some stores, so Asda are still urging shoppers to check individual store hours.

Co-op Christmas and New Year Opening Times
Co-op stores will be open from 8:00 - 21:00 on Christmas Eve, as well as New Year’s Eve.
On Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, stores will be open between 8:00 and 20:00.
On Christmas Day, you can expect all Co-op branches to be closed.

Morrisons Christmas and New Year Opening Times
Morrisons will be open on Christmas Eve from 6:00-18:00, but they’ll be closed on Christmas Day.
However, they’ll be open on both New Year’s Eve from 7:00-19:00, and New Year’s Day from 10:00-18:00.

Tesco Christmas and New Year Opening Times
Tesco Extras and Superstores will close at 18:00 on Christmas eve, with some variations in the London area. Express stores close at 22:00, but some might close at 18:00.
On Christmas day, all Tesco stores and petrol filling stations will be closed.
On Boxing Day, Extras and Superstores will be open from 9:00-18:00. The majority of Express stores will be open from 9:00-19:00, while some larger Express stores will close at 18:00.
On New Year’s Eve, Extras and Superstores will close at 18:00 with some variations in the London area. The majority of Express stores will close at 22:00, while some larger Express stores will close at 18:00.
On New Year’s Day, England, Wales and Northern Ireland Extras and Superstores are open for normal Sunday trading hours.
Scotland Extras ad Superstores are open on New Year’s Day from 10:00-18:00, and Express stores from 8:00-20:00. The majority of Express stores are open from 8:00-22:00, but some larger Express stores might have shorter trading hours.
