Supermarket, dozens of apartments planned for Taylor

A development application has been submitted for a multi-use apartment block in the territory's most northern suburb.

The proposal includes three, three-storey buildings on the corner of Robin Boyd Crescent, Grenfell Avenue and Langmead Street in Taylor.

If successful, the $23 million project will include apartments, cafes, a supermarket and health centre.

There would be 38 apartments in the complex. About half would be three-bedroom dwellings and the rest would have two bedrooms each.

On the ground floor, small retail stores and places to eat would line the internal perimeter of the buildings.

A supermarket would be constructed on the centre of then eastern building's ground floor.

A communal, open space at the centre of the development would include trees and tables for resident use and areas for workers to enjoy.

The perimeter of the building would have large foliage, creating privacy for neighbouring buildings.

At its tallest point, the proposed development would be 13 metres in height. Site plans suggest underground parking would be available for tenants and patrons.

Development company Giles Deakin Pty Ltd purchased the land at Section 60, Block 1 in Taylor through a government tender process in 2023 for $4 million.

The Canberra Times has contacted Giles Deakin Pty Ltd for comment.

The development is one of several recently lodged for the growing Gungahlin area.

Last week, the ACT government announced a plan for east of the Gungahlin town centre, which would include sprawling parklands and up to 2500 homes on a 32-hectare site.
