Solutions

1:C - Things Can Only Get Better, adopted as an anthem by Tony Blair's New Labour in the 90s, was ringing across the Downing Street downpour thanks to a protester. Still, at least the PM's suit held up well, 2:C - It is 650, and has been since 2010, 3:D - Correct. Of course if these people were genuinely worried about overbearing majorities, they must have campaigned to reform FPTP in the 2011 referendum, right? Right? Oh, apparently not, 4:C - Dale's subsequent social media activity suggests he would have struggled to support the tone of Sunak's campaign in any case, 5:B - Abbott was first elected in 1987, and is both the first black woman elected to parliament and the longest-serving black MP, 6:A - Yes, as well as passports, driving licences and state-issued travel passes for older people. Student ID, of course, does not count, almost like the law was designed to make it easier for older people to vote than younger people 🧐, 7:B - He probably wasn't following the script. The other options are not standing in the election, but they are all people he has raced alongside to win major rowing medals, 8:A - The first declaration has become quite a television ritual. Sunderland had the upper hand for many years, but in both 2017 and 2019 a Newcastle constituency won out. Newcastle upon Tyne Central was declared at 11.27pm last time out, 9:C - Ukip leader Paul Nuttall failed to get elected there in 2017, 10:D - He has contested elections before and previously been a county councillor, 11:A - She also named The West Wing and Borgen as among her favourites, 12:D - Etchingham also handled the 2019 debate for the network, 13:B - Only the Duke and Duchess of Westminster outranked the Labour shadow foreign secretary and his wife, the artist Nicola Green, according to the magazine's list, 14:B - He was very kind to her about it, not least because she admitted she had got it right when they practised it then got it wrong on broadcast, 15:C - That is the first minister, Michelle O'Neill, in the photograph, who launched the party's election campaign in Belfast. Four of the seven are attempting to retain their seats, 16:A - She could have gone with the traditional standby of "But I didn't write the headline …", 17:C - The opening match of Euro 2024 was Germany v Scotland in Munich, and despite the result everyone there including the politicians looked like they were living their absolute best life, 18:A - They went big on the tax lines and the argument that "tax check" is not as disingenuous as literally claiming to be a "fact check", 19:D - Among the 4.4 million people pulled into paying income tax by a continuing freeze on tax thresholds are an extra 1.77 million pensioners. The Tories have repeatedly accused Labour of planning to tax pensions, 20:C - They want to move it from £12,571 to £20,000, 21:B - Previously on Haringey council, he has been an MP for 41 years, 22:A - The health policy document on the party’s website was taken down. The now out of date position was last updated in … April, 23:F - The man would clearly be brilliant at some kind of modern Go With Noakes TV show, but he hadn't abseiled anywhere yet at the time of writing, 24:D - Robinson stepped into the role in March, and is standing for reelection in Belfast East, 25:A - Shaheen was 1,262 votes shy of ousting Duncan Smith in 2019, and is running as an independent. The inevitable ensuing split in the Labour vote is probably the best news Duncan Smith has had locally in years, 26:C - Clearly not as unlikely as one of his other policies, that minsters’ pay would be tied to that of nurses for the next 100 years, 27:B - Big and small, it says "Change" 15 times on each side, 28:D - Keir may have mentioned it once or twice while on the campaign trail
