Leeds United have been backed by data analysts FiveThirtyEight to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season in their latest supercomputer predictions, despite losing 1-0 to Everton on Saturday.
Seamus Coleman's 64th minute strike was a sickening blow to Leeds supporters as they saw their side plunged into the relegation zone, just a solitary point ahead of bottom of the league Southampton. The Whites are without a win in the Premier League since November and desperately need to get back to winning ways if they are to move away from the foot of the table.
The Saints travel to Elland Road next weekend and a win for Leeds could see them move up to 16th should results go their way. There is still a long way to go this term with just eight points separating the bottom 12 clubs.

And despite losing to relegation rivals Everton on Saturday, FiveThirtyEight's latest supercomputer prediction still sees them finish in 17th - one place and a single point ahead of the Toffees come May.
They predict that Leeds have a 36 per cent chance of going down this season, compared to Everton (44%), Bournemouth (64%) and Southampton (66%).
FiveThirtyEight simulate a team's remaining league matches 20,000 times using weighted probabilities for each result. Every week the table is updated based on a side's form and prior results, with those on winning streaks seeing improved forecasts and those on a poor run subsequently penalised.
Therefore Leeds supporters can perhaps take some comfort that their worrying league form has already been factored into the model, which still backs the Whites to remain in the Premier League next season.
