Supercell has formally agreed to buy the last stake in Metacore, the Finnish studio behind the mobile puzzle game Merge Mansion – a game that will now be absorbed into Supercell’s existing portfolio of live mobile titles if there are no hitches. As reported by Inven Global, the transaction should be wrapped up by the end of September 2026, though the financial terms haven’t been made public.
The agreement makes good on plans Supercell first put forward in the spring, when it said it planned to buy the remaining shares of Metacore and add Merge Mansion to its already impressive roster, which includes Hay Day and Clash of Clans. Player-facing services will resume service as normal while the acquisition process moves forward, and Metacore's development team will keep supporting the existing community. In other words, players don’t need to be worried that things may change.
"As we move into this next phase together with Supercell, I'm excited about the opportunities this creates for the game, our team and our players," the company said, as reported by gamesindustry.biz.
What Supercell is buying into
Released in 2020, Merge Mansion is available for free on iOS and Android devices, and is often rated as one of the top mobile games. The object of the game is to complete tasks by combining matching items, and restore your granny’s mansion and its garden to its former glory. She’s always there keeping tabs on your progress, and slowly but surely you’ll reveal her secrets. More than 60 million people have downloaded the game so far, with its loyal player base a key part of its appeal to Supercell.
Supercell also pointed to the game's brand recognition, sophisticated storytelling and gameplay loop as reasons for the acquisition. This is less a speculative bet on a new game and more a move to improve something that’s already working.
The numbers behind the move
Supercell is in a healthy position to make acquisitions like this. In 2025, the company posted about 290 million monthly active players across its live titles, generated €2.65 billion in full-year revenue (a four percent decrease year over year), and recorded €932 million in pre-tax profit, a six percent increase, according to gamesindustry.biz. It also doubled its investment in new game development and has indicated that it wants to double that figure again.
What this means for Merge Mansion players
For those of you already playing Merge Mansion, not much will change for the moment. Gameplay and services will continue as normal through the transition. Metacore's team will also stay as it is, and will be focused on the community it's built over the past six years.
The longer view is where things get interesting. Supercell has run global mobile franchises for over a decade, and Metacore expressed expectations that this operational experience will support Merge Mansion's long-term growth. That kind of infrastructure, whether it's in live-ops discipline, global publishing, or monetization, is what smaller studios often gain most from a publisher acquisition.
The deal closing by the end of September 2026 will make the integration official. More details on the transition process are expected as that deadline approaches.
