RAIPUR: In yet another case of renal failure in Gariabandh’s Supebeda region a 47-year-old Purandar Adil died on Saturday. The death toll reached 78 as the deceased was ailing for the past several years.
Purandar Adil of the village was suffering from kidney and liver disease for the past several years. He was treated at Visakhapatnam, Gariaband, Raipur Medical College and Raipur AIIMS. Later when his health deteriorated, he was admitted to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital of Raipur Medical College. Four days ago, the hospital also discharged him after advising him to take him to AIIMS.
As per Supebeda village resident Trilochan Sonwani the family of the deceased wanted to bring him home. 10 days Purandar’s 70 year old uncle Gangaram died of same illness. He was also suffering from chronic illness of kidney disease. Gangaram was advised of dialysis which he refused to take due to being skeptical.
In October 2019, state Governor Anusuiya Uikey and the Health Minister TS Singhdeo had reached Supebeda and had promised the villagers a filter plant and a civil hospital, which has not fulfilled so far.
Gariabandh district’s Supebeda village is grappling with kidney ailment due to unknown reason since past few years. Though government’s survey report has indicated presence of metals including chromium and cadmium in soil, which could be one of the reason but the kidney ailment claimed several lives even installation of six water filtration plants. To diagnose the cause of outbreak of kidney ailment, several medical experts from renowned institutions has conducted research and surveys which failed to produce any substantial outcome.
In October 2020, state government had installed first peritoneal dialysis set up in Supebeda’s primary health centre to provide dialysis facility to kidney patients, who use to avail the treatment in Raipur.
