A Sunshine Coast man will remain in custody after being charged over a road crash that killed a motorcyclist and left another rider fighting for life in hospital.

Police will allege 31-year-old Joshua David Halverson was driving a sedan that collided with two motorbikes heading in the opposite direction along Old Gympie Road, Burpengary, at 5:30pm yesterday.

One of the motorcyclists, a 57-year-old man, died at the scene.

The other rider, a 60-year-old man, was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Mr Halverson is facing several charges including dangerous driving causing death, driving under the influence of liquor or a drug, and driving while suspended.

The Eumundi man has also been charged with possession of the dangerous drug Psilocybin, commonly found in magic mushrooms, and possession of a drug utensil.

He appeared via phone link in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court this morning where the duty lawyer made no application for bail.

No plea was entered.

Mr Halverson has been remanded in custody, with the matter due back before the Caboolture Magistrates Court on July 3.
