Suns’ Trade Proposal for Kyrie Irving Included Chris Paul, per Report

The Nets reportedly traded embattled point guard Kyrie Irving on Sunday afternoon to the Mavericks in a trade package that included Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith and draft compensation.

While the Mavericks won the sweepstakes to acquire Irving from Brooklyn, several teams made offers to the Nets to pry him away from a situation that became contentious for all involved.

The Suns were one of those teams that made a push to trade for Irving, and the franchise was willing to include all-star point guard Chris Paul as part of the trade package, according to a report from Chris Haynes of TNT and Bleacher Report.

Per Haynes, Phoenix offered Paul, wing Jae Crowder and unspecified draft compensation. Meanwhile, the Lakers offered a package that included the team’s two future first round picks in 2027 and ’29, as well as guard Russell Westbrook, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Ultimately, the Nets reportedly went with the Mavericks’ deal and brought in two proven veterans who should provide a boost to Brooklyn in their quest to make a deep run in the playoffs. As for Irving, he will now run alongside star Luka Dončić in Dallas as the Mavericks look to capitalize on Dončić’s prime.
