Sunderland woman who mistook cancer symptom for STI put off GP visit over 'embarrassment'

A woman from Sunderland who mistook her cancer symptoms for an STI has urged others to get checked out after she put off visiting her GP due to "embarrassment".

Olivia Wallace, from Barnes, had what she believed was a recurring ulcer in 2015 but after fearing she had a sexually transmitted infection didn't end up going to her GP until early 2016.

By that point, the cancer had already developed and the 20-year-old was told the devastating news that she had stage four tongue cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes.
