Sunderland U21s game with Wolverhampton Wanderers was postponed after 24 minutes. The heavy fog at Eppleton made visibility incredibly poor with officials left with no other choice.
Referee Ed Duckworth brought both sides back into the dressing room for ten minutes in the hope that the game would clear.
Officials had already done multiple inspections ahead of kick-off and gave the game the green light, despite it difficult to make out one side of the pitch.

Conditions worsened as first-half wore on which will disappoint Graeme Murty and Sunderland. The young Black Cats has started the game brightly and were the dominant side.
Wolves hadn't tested goalkeeper Adam Richardson prior to the postponement, with James Storer far the busier goalkeeper. Sunderland opened the scoring through Caden Kelly, blasting the ball past Storer from the penalty spot after Ethan Kachosa was hacked to the ground inside the box.
Kachosa then almost added a second minutes later. Cutting in from the right-hand side of the box and curling an effort towards the bottom left-hand corner - Storer equal to the effort.
The Premier League had been keen to get the Premier League Cup fixtures fulfilled before Christmas, with an official announcement on a rescheduled game to follow.
