Sunderland's Jewison Bennette has been named in Costa Rica's squad for this month's World Cup finals in Qatar. The winger, who joined the Black Cats at the end of August, has been included in coach Luis Fernando Suarez's 26-man party for the finals.
Bennette became Costa Rica's youngest ever senior international when he made his debut against El Salvador in August 2021 at the age of 17 years and two months. Now 18, Bennette has been capped seven times by his county and scored his first international goals in September when he netted a brace in a 2-2 friendly draw against South Korea in Goyang.
Also in Costa Rica's World Cup squad is former Sunderland defender Bryan Oviedo. Oviedo spent two-and-a-half years on Wearside before leaving in the summer of 2019 to join FC Copenhagen, and the 32-year-old currently plays in the MLS for Real Salt Lake.
