Sunderland's interim boss Martin Canning made two changes to the side that started last weekend's win at Stoke City. Canning, who was in charge in the absence of head coach Alex Neil who is on the verge of being appointed as Stoke's new boss, restored Dan Neil to the side after the midfielder had sat out last weekend's trip to the bet365 Stadium as he served a one-game suspension.
He replaced Elliot Embleton, who dropped to the bench. The second change saw Corry Evans brought back into the starting XI after he returned from a hamstring issue as a sub against the Potters.
The Northern Ireland international took the place of Jay Matete, who was not included in the matchday squad. Norwich boss Dean Smith had made changes for the Canaries' midweek Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Bournemouth, but he reverted to the same side that began last weekend's 2-0 Championship win at home to Millwall.
