Customers can dine out around the world 'under one roof' from this weekend as Sunderland Restaurant Week gets under way with far more than just seven days of offers.
The event, which will involve around 50 restaurants, cafes and bars in the area, will actually run from March 4-12 with a tempting array of meal deals available for between £10 and £20 and including the likes of Greek street food from Acropolis in Seaburn's Stack to Indian cuisine at My Delhi in the city centre and the taste of Campania and the Amalfi coast served up at Angelo’s Ristorante in Sunniside.
Or how about a two-course lunch for a tenner at the Roker bar of gin maker Poetic License? They are just some of the options which will be available during Restaurant Week which is organised by Sunderland BID whose chief executive Sharon Appleby said this year's participants reflect the city's "exciting and fast-growing food scene".

She added: “There’s around 50 establishments signed up to take part, so there really is something for everyone.” Customers will be able to choose from a range of £10, £15 or £20 deals and can download a voucher from their chosen restaurant online.
Among them is Buddha Beat, which opened recently with an Asian tapas-style menu which adds to a growing food scene that caters well for lovers of Indian food. Besides the likes of My Delhi - the Sunderland branch of the Newcastle steet food award-winner - others include Chilli Mangoes, Spice Empire, House of Punjab, Chesters Lounge, Asiana and House of Zen. Those with a passion for pasta and pizza, meanwhile, have the pick of the likes of the award-winning Angelo’s Ristorante; Roman Italian and Venice Italian.
There is plenty of English cuisine on offer too, from the imaginative bistro-style menu served at Spent Grain to tried-and-tested favourites at the likes of Victors, The Peacock, The Old Vestry and Tarantino’s, say organisers. Cafes across the city and beyond get a look in too, with Sweet Petite and Crumb On In offering deals on such treats as cakes and afternoon tea respectively.
Coun Linda Williams, portfolio holder for 'Vibrant City' at Sunderland City Council which supports the festival, said: “We’re lucky to have some fantastic and varied restaurants in Sunderland, as well as some exciting new additions to the city, so I’m sure everyone will find something they can enjoy during Restaurant Week. I know this has been a popular event in the past as it is a great chance to save money while supporting some of our local food and drink businesses."
