Sunderland were stunned by Accrington's second-half fightback in their penultimate friendly. The Black Cats were dominant for an hour and should have been out of sight long before Ross Stewart gave them the lead from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time.
But with Accrington keeper Lukas Jensen in outstanding form, Sunderland were made to pay for their missed chances in the second period. First Sean McConville levelled from the penalty spot just after the hour against the run of play.
And then more poor defending allowed sub Korede Adedoyin to force home the winning goal from close range 15 minutes from time.
