Sunderland named among top five cheapest cities for a pint across the UK ahead of Beer Day

Sunderland has been named in the top five cities across Great Britain to bag a cheap pint, as UK residents storm their locals for a cold, refreshing beer to mark Beer Britain Day. New research from personal finance firm finder.com has worked out that the city by the sea is among one of the UK's cheapest places for a pint of the amber.

While their football team is notorious for being the Premier League's lowest-ever scoring team in a season, Derby come out in prime position for cheap pints.

A pint in Derby will set you back just £3, while Kingston upon Hull took home the silver medal - at just £3.32 per pint. Aberdeen finished third in the rankings, where a pint will cost you just £3.43, while Sunderland respectively finished fourth.

Londoners may want to look elsewhere for a cheap and cheerful beer today, with the capital city finishing dead last in the rankings - pints there costing an average of £5.90.

York is second-bottom, but 80p less than London, at £5.10 per pint. Belfast, Edinburgh and Brighton and Hove are also selling pints for more than £5, at £5.08, £5.05 and £5.02 respectively.

The average cost of a pint in the UK in 2023 is £4.21, which has increased by 1.6 per cent from an average of £4.15 in 2022 and by just over 8 per cent from the UK average of £3.89 in 2021.
