Tony Mowbray made two changes to the side that started Sunderland's weekend draw at Luton Town. One of those was forced upon Mowbray as a result of Jack Clarke picking up his fifth yellow card of the season which meant he served a one-match ban this evening.
Clarke was replaced by Patrick Roberts, who returned to the starting line-up after he had made his comeback from a minor hamstring issue when he came off the bench at Luton. The second change saw Elliot Embleton, who came on as a substitute to score Sunderland's goal at Kenilworth Road, replace Dan Neil in midfield with Neil dropping to the bench.
French midfielder Edouard Michut was absent from the squad after picking up a groin problem at Luton.
Huddersfield Town boss Mark Fotheringham made four changes, in his case to the side that beat Millwall here at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday. Brodie Spencer, Josh Ruffels, Duane Holmes, and Jordan Rhodes came into the side, in place of Ollie Turton, Tom Lees, Sorba Thomas, and Danny Ward.
