The 8th annual VA 5-K is Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Veterans Affairs Leestown Road complex in Lexington. It’s a fundraiser for the Fisher House, a 16-suite building for family members of veterans being cared for at either Lexington campus. The VA’s Patrick Sinclair said it’s a great race for a great cause.
“We have roughly four to 500 runners, that will come out and it's an out and back course on our campus here, at Leestown.”
Runners can sign up as late as five minutes before they race to help vets – and vets’ families.
“They don't have to worry about that cost of having to go to a hotel room, they can stay right here at our Fisher House, free of charge, and have the amenities of being home.”
Sinclair said the VA 5-K has raised more than a quarter of a million dollars for the Fisher House.
