Rangers fan who broke woman's leg in sectarian attack avoids jail

Victim Cayla Dyer has hit out at the sentence handed to her attacker (Daily Record)

A Rangers fan who carried out a brutal sectarian attack after celebrating her team’s title success has walked free from court. Catherine Duffy punched, kicked and stamped on an innocent train passenger, breaking her leg in two places.

The victim, 20-year-old Cayla Dyer, still suffers pain 17 months on and is awaiting further surgery. She hit out this week after watching Duffy, 19, being placed on a community payback order for what a sheriff branded “unacceptable” behaviour.

Duffy appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court following the attack at Sunnyside train station in Coatbridge, on May 15 last year. She admitted an assault aggravated by religious prejudice that caused Cayla severe injury and permanent impairment.

Serial killer Peter Tobin's ashes are dumped at sea after no family came forward

Serial killer Peter Tobin has been secretly cremated and his ashes dumped at sea, the Sunday Mail can reveal. The 76-year-old’s funeral took place at a crematorium on Thursday evening without any service.

The cremation was organised by Edinburgh City Council after Tobin’s death last Saturday morning as he lay handcuffed to a hospital bed.

The council took over the funeral arrangements after no family members or next of kin came forward to claim his body.

Mum stunned as ASOS wedding outfit left her feeling 'like a half-opened present'

A mum has been left stunned after a wedding outfit left her looking like a 'half-opened present.' Suzannah Smith had spent months looking for the perfect outfit for her best friend's wedding.

The 35-year-old says she had been at her 'absolute wit's end' after repeatedly ordering and returning outfits, until she finally found one on ASOS. Usually seen wearing leggings and baggy T-shirt's she says the outfit that arrived was a 'monstrosity'.

Suzannah had ordered a £123 textured organza mint co-ord hoping that the more 'adventurous' choice would be the one. Wales Online reports the hairdresser opted for an 18 in the skirt, despite being a size 16.

But the 'monstrosity' didn't fit and was a 'naff' material, almost like that of 'toilet paper print'.
