SumaiL leaves Nigma Galaxy after 3-year stint

Syed “SumaiL” Hassan, one of the most decorated players in professional Dota 2, has officially parted ways with Nigma Galaxy after more than three years with the organization.

Nigma Galaxy confirmed SumaiL’s departure from their Dota 2 roster on March 1, 2026, expressing gratitude for the mid-laner’s remarkable tenure through a video tribute.

“End of an era! After a long journey full of highs and lows, we thank you SumaiL for everything you’ve done for us and we wish you all the best. You will always be our king,” the organization wrote in its farewell message.

SumaiL’s career with Nigma Galaxy

SumaiL first joined Nigma Galaxy in May 2022, joining veteran captain KuroKy, Miracle-, GH, and MinD_ContRoL. The roster showed flashes of brilliance and managed to climb to the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Western Europe Division 1, but they ultimately fell short of qualifying for The International 2022.

Despite the star-studded lineup, consistency proved elusive. In 2023, SumaiL was loaned out in a high-profile move to Team Aster in China, marking a temporary break from Nigma.

He returned to NGX in late 2023, though it wasn’t until 2025 that the team finally found sustained momentum. After TI 2024, a roster rebuild brought in No!ob, OmaR, and Ghost, while GH transitioned to the hard support role. The revamped squad began competing regularly in tier-1 Dota 2 events and secured qualification for The International 2025.

In Hamburg, Nigma Galaxy exceeded expectations. They pushed through to the Main Event and finished in 5th-6th place. Throughout the tournament, SumaiL delivered amazing performances, reminding fans why he remains the youngest champion in The International history after winning the Aegis of Champions with Evil Geniuses in 2015.

The following season, however, was far less forgiving. Nigma had underwhelming showings at FISSURE Playground 2, PGL Wallachia Season 6, and DreamLeague Season 27.

With GH’s announcement of a competitive break and Ghost’s departure, NGX continued to struggle, failing to qualify for major tournaments such as ESL One Birmingham 2026 and DreamLeague Season 28. SumaiL last played for the team at DreamLeague Division 2 Season 3, where Nigma Galaxy lost 0-3 to Aurora Gaming in the grand final.

Is SumaiL retiring from competitive Dota 2?

Whenever a veteran of SumaiL’s caliber leaves a team, retirement rumors tend to follow. For now, though, there are no official statements nor any indications that he plans to step away from the professional scene. Neither SumaiL nor Nigma Galaxy has suggested that his departure means the end of his career.

At 27 years old, SumaiL is still widely regarded as one of the most mechanically talented midlaners in competitive Dota 2. His performances at The International 2025, where he frequently carried Nigma to crucial wins, have proven that he can still go toe-to-toe with younger players and be a highly valuable pickup for any top-tier organization.
