Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi: Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena chief shot dead in Jaipur

JAIPUR: Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, president of the right-wing group Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Rajasthan's capital Jaipur on Tuesday. One of the assialants was also killed in in retaliatory firing.

Three miscreants entered a house where Gogamedi was present and opened fire at him.

One of Gogamedi's security guards sustained bullet injuries in the exchange of fire with the assailants, who had gone to his house in the Shyam Nagar area on the pretext of meeting him, police said.

Rohit Godara of the Lawrence Bishnoi-Goldy Brar gang later claimed responsibility for the attack in a Facebook post. In the post, Godara said they killed Gogamedi because he was conspiring with their rivals.

Later, a CCTV footage of the incident emerged, showing two men firing multiple rounds at the Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena chief.

Rajasthan Director General of Police (DGP) Umesh Mishra confirmed the incident. Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph said that Gogamedi was taken to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Gogamedi formed Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena after he was expelled from Sri Rajput Karni Sena in 2015 over differences with its founder Lokendra Singh Kalvi.

Both these outfits had protested against Deepika Padukone starrer "Padmaavat" in 2018 over alleged distortion of historical facts about the Rajput community.

Soon after the news of the attack on Gogamedi broke, his supporters and members of the Rajput community gathered outside his house and the hospital where he was taken.

A relative said that Gogamedi had been receiving threats for a long time and feared an attack on him. He claimed police had been informed about the threats.

Gogamedi's supporters blocked the Shipra Path road outside the hospital where he was rushed after the attack and demanded that the accused be arrested immediately.
