It's been a while since Bandai Namco dropped a Gundam game where all you do is fight big metal monsters. The last several years have been full of gacha games and remakes. But next year, Gundam Rogue Orbit will fix that.
Described as a blend of "a fast-paced cinematic story with intense, hard-hitting combat," Gundam Rogue Orbit is refreshing to see. The trailer shown at Summer Game Fest 2026 was full of towering mechs and big swords—which is all anyone really wants.
You'd think it wouldn't have taken this long for a modern Gundam action game to show up after the success of Armored Core 6, but at least the wait won't be very long. Gundam Rogue Orbit has it all: Massive battlegrounds, nasty-looking monsters, and slick combat. Watching a mech light up the screen with an explosive sword slam says a lot about the amount of stylish moves you can weave in during combat. It's hard to tell from the trailer alone, but it looks like this game will lean into the spectacle of mech battles instead of forcing you to survive brutal odds.
Best of all, there's a real weight to the way the suits dash in the air and slam into the ground. Nothing about Gundam Rogue Orbit looks like a floaty third-person shooter where you occasionally punch a robot. The action looks like it's at an 11 at all times and might be the thing that lures me into playing a Gundam game despite knowing very little about the series as a whole.
5 years after it was announced, the live-action Gundam movie finds home at Netflix – and The Housemaid and Street Fighter stars are up for lead roles
