Demands have been made in the Commons for the Sue Gray report to be published in full now that the police investigation into partygate has concluded.
Tory MP Mark Harper joined calls from opposition MPs for the report by the senior civil servant into the numerous parties and events across Whitehall to be published immediately.
The Scotland Yard investigation into lockdown breaking parties in Downing Street ended with 126 fines have issued but the Prime Minister escaped a second fixed penalty notice in his name.
The Tory MP for the Forest of Dean, asked the Leader of the House of Commons for a commitment that the Prime Minister to come to the House with a statement.
He asked fellow Tory MP Mark Spenser: "On Wednesday 9 February, the Prime Minister gave me an assurance at the despatch box that as soon as inquiries were concluded he would publish the Sue Gray report immediately and in full.
"The Prime Minister has also said that when the inquiries were concluded, he would be able to say more on this matter and I’m sure he would intend that his words his first words would be to this House."
"So can the Leader (of the House) first of all confirm that two ways report will be published in full next week before the House rises for the Whitsun recess, and the Prime Minister will be coming to the House next week to make a full statement to be questioned on this very important matter?"
Labour also called for the report by the senior civil servant to be published in full.
Angela Rayner MP, Labour’s Deputy Leader, said the 126 fines were a staggering statistic and called for the Sue Gray report to be published. She said: “We must now urgently see the Sue Gray report published in full. It’s time for the Prime Minister to stop hiding.
“While the British people sacrificed so much, Boris Johnson’s Downing Street broke the rules at record-breaking scale. Britain deserves better.”
The report from the senior civil servant detailing the numerous parties that took place across Whitehall is now expected to be published next week.
While it will be a huge relief for the Prime Minister to escape with just one fixed penalty notice he still faces the outcome of the Sue Gray report which is said to contain 300 pictures and details of all the events which led to the police investigation and the issuing of 126 fixed penalty notices.
More importantly publication of the report could lead to a possible vote of no confidence from backbench Tory MPs who view his rule-breaking as an electoral liability.
