Succession fans were left shocked as they finally learnt who will become Logan Roy's successor and take over the family business.
The entire series has been building up the big reveal, with Logan's children — Kendall, Roman, Shiv and Connor — fighting to replace their billionaire media mogul father.
Spoiler alert, in a major twist during the season finale, none of the Roy siblings won.
In the episode, the family were getting ready to have the final Waystar Royco board vote on the merger with Lukas Matsson's company GoJo.
Shiv Roy took one last turn against her brother Kendall Roy as she destroyed his plans to keep their late father's company and become CEO by voting in favour of GoJo acquiring the business.
Shiv's husband Tom Wambsgans triumphed in the show as he was named as the new chief executive, with cousin Greg Hirsch by his side despite last-minute treachery.
In the finale's closing shot, Kendall stares in despair toward the water, having lost everything.
Fans quickly took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the season finale of the hit HBO show.
"What a final shot to end the series. Opinions might be bit divisive of the episode but god damn I loved it. Thematically perfect! One of the finest TV show ends with arguably the best season in a TV show," one fan wrote.
Another viewer said: "Even when messed up and hard to digest, Shiv Roy made a smart move. Questionable, yes, but her choice. She wasn't gonna win either way and had to pick up her villain. Shiv chose to be a Lady Macbeth. Jesse Armstrong, you filthy genius."
"Kendall was about to fully crystallize into a Logan-sized monster and Shiv saw that and killed it, what a finale," agreed a third fan.
Other viewers drew parallels between Shiv and her mother Caroline Collingwood.
"Shiv has finally become her mother. Destined to be the unhappy wife of the powerful ceo. I'm gonna be SICK #SuccessionFinale," one person tweeted.
Another fan added: "Me sat on the couch rn thinking about all the parallels i missed between tom and logan (greg and frank) and how shiv was always going to turn into caroline so it made sense she'd end up reduced to ceo's wife, cursed to repeat the cycle #Succession."
