Subnautica 2's first major update "brings back one of the most requested player experiences" and will be "the scariest the game has been yet"

One Subnautica 2 lead is teasing that "one of the most requested player experiences" is set to return in the early access survival game's "next major content drop," and we can also expect things to be scarier than ever.

Speaking in a new dev log, design lead Anthony Gallegos discusses a number of upcoming quality-of-life improvements first revealed in the Subnautica 2 roadmap, including additional Biomods options and emotes, alongside ongoing bug fixes.

What's more, he reveals that Unknown Worlds is also working on adding proximity chat. "We've heard the outcry for months, and we're working hard to get that in as soon as possible," he says. He describes all of these things as being in the "short term."

Beyond that, Gallegos also has more to share about the "next major content drop." He begins: "Our next region, the home of the Collector Leviathan, will add a new chassis that brings back one of the most requested player experiences. So, get ready to get stompy."

While he doesn't say it by name, many fans are assuming that Gallegos is teasing the return of the PRAWN Suit – a bipedal, walking mech suit that previously let players explore areas on foot. So far, it's been absent from Subnautica 2, but folks are already excited at the prospect of it being added.

"THE PRAWN SUIT RETURNS!" one YouTube comment declares, as another says: "Get stompy? GET STOMPY!? Hell yeah prawn suit is coming back baby!"

Otherwise, Gallegos confirms that – as you'd expect – "the new region will also have new creatures, new resources, and be progression and story driven." He continues: "Our goal is to let you jump in without having to start a new save, rather pick up right where you left off. I really think it's going to be the scariest the game has been yet, and I can't wait for you to try it."

Mysterious. There's currently no indication of when we can expect this new region to release – the roadmap simply has it slated for the "future," so we could be waiting a while for it, but there's clearly plenty to look forward to.

Subnautica 2 tries to be more like Alien: Isolation than Silent Hill 2, which is why the leviathans are invincible now.
