Subnautica 2 devs promise sprint, voice chat, and player trading in early access roadmap, and the "next chapter of the story" is on the way

A Subnautica 2 player comes across another player in front of a yellow door.

Unknown Worlds has released a roadmap for Subnautica 2 now that the game is officially out in early access.

In a post to its website, the developer shares a Subnautica 2 roadmap detailing what's going to be coming to the game – getting into specifics for the first two updates and then a general list of things for the great beyond. The next update for the game, labelled EA 1.1, is set to focus on quality-of-life improvements for the game, with changes set to come to the likes of biomods, blight encounters, and vehicle docking and fabrication, with the update also set to include more passive biomod slots, storage cache, and a sprint function.

Meanwhile, EA 1.2 is set to focus on co-op with voice chat, emotes, trading, and a revive function set to be added to the game alongside improvements to the base-building tool and pinned recipes system. Otherwise, the future segment promises a bigger world and additions to pretty much everything in the game, with new tools, vehicles, an expanded world, and more story content. Unknown Worlds doesn't give a specific timeframe for when these updates will be released, but at the very least, we know what the first updates will be.

The post also includes a note to players, saying: "Updates will vary from focused improvements that address systems and smaller features, to hot fixes when needed, and then our larger expansions. So, as we build towards the next big drop that expands on the world, biomes, creatures, resources, tools, vehicles, and brings you the next chapter of the story, we'll be planning on adding several improvement updates in the meantime!"

And while the developer went to the trouble of making up a fancy graphic for these changes, it notes: "This roadmap is subject to change or adjustment. We want to hear from you, our community, on what we should be looking at while we develop Subnautica 2. Community input is key to shaping the game throughout Early Access!"

But these planned updates aren't the only updates the game will get, as the Unknown Worlds says "of course, we will continue to roll out bug fixes, balance tuning, optimizations, and other related updates throughout Early Access. We'll be monitoring your feedback very closely to help guide those ongoing improvements."

"I hope you rethink your life choices": Subnautica 2 dev responds to pirate asking for tech support on leaked build.
