INDORE: Indore Divisional Cricket Association (IDCA) chairman and BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya on Sunday said that the good grounds and multiple tournaments have helped more cricket players from state find place in team India.
Appreciating women’s cricket team of Madhya Pradesh, Vijayvargiya said, “The women’s cricket team has been excelling and more number of female cricketers are likely to prove their mettle by making their place in the national team in a span of a couple of years.”
He said that more efforts needed to be put in to get more grounds in order to have more players (both males and females) ready for Indian team from Indore.
Appreciating efforts being put to upgrade the grounds especially Gymkhana ground, Vijayvargiya said that he at times felt jealous for not getting such good grounds during his time.
IDCA organized its annual felicitation ceremony on Sunday in which chief guest was Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. Scindia described IDCA as a nursery for players to get into Indian cricket and said that MPCA had not only presented gems for the state but for Indian team too.
“Cricket has always been denoted as a gentlemen’s game and the style of the players of IDCA has always been impeccable,” Scindia said.
Families of the two promising cricketers from Indore, Avesh Khan and Venkatesh Iyer, who made their debut in the Indian cricket team, were honoured at the ceremony. Member of BCCI Umpires Committee who has officiated at the international level, Sudhir Asnani, member of BCCI’s tour fixtures and technical committee, Amitabh Vijayvargiya, and Raju Singh, who has represented Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association in BCCI were also felicitated on this occasion.
