Stunning footage of Anfield Road expansion emerges as Liverpool's £80m plan takes shape

Further footage has been released which shows the work going on for the Anfield Road expansion at Liverpool’s home stadium.

The Anfield Road expansion will be the third major project undertaken during the FSG era following the £110m Main Stand increase in 2016 and the opening of the £50m AXA Training Centre in November of 2020.

Liverpool's progress to take their capacity up to 61,000 is continuing at pace, with completion on the 7,000-seat project still expected in time for the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

Those proposals were initially slated to cost around £60m but have since risen by a third up to £80m as a result of the pandemic.

Aerial footage taken by a drone on Wednesday, captured by Mister Drone UK, has provided a further update on how the expansion is progressing.

“I went over and had a look at the roof truss corners that are in the car park,” he said. “And what I’ve learned is that the main truss that is going to connect to those corners is in between the old stand and new stand being built.

“It’s laying there, it’s constructed and it’s there ready. So we’re all ready.”

The footage shot by Mister Drone UK, which he has posted on his Youtube channel, shows aerial footage from a variety of angles of the new stand being built. In the video, you can also see work being done on the new pitch being laid at Anfield.

Liverpool's managing director Andy Hughes said back in March that the expansion of the Anfield Road stand is proof of FSG's desire to keep the Reds functioning as a self-sustainable business at the elite end of football.

"It's absolutely critical to safeguard the future," Mr Hughes told the ECHO in March.

"We've been working on these projects for a long time.

"The Main Stand has gone well, the training ground has gone well and we're on track with this project as well.

"I think we will have spent over £250m on infrastructure for the long-term at the club, which I think is a real statement from the owners for the future of Liverpool Football Club ."
