A new analysis of household incomes across the United States shows that being considered “middle class” can mean very different things depending on where you live.
The study by SmartAsset, based on U.S. Census Bureau data, defines the middle class as households earning between two-thirds and twice the median household income in their area. Under that measure, a household can earn more than $200,000 a year and still fall within the middle class in some of the country’s wealthiest states.
