Study finds sweetener in fizzy drinks 'could treat immune disorders'

A study has suggested that an artificial sweetener commonly used in drinks could be used to treat people with autoimmune disorders like type 1 diabetes.

The sweetener is Sucralose and scientists are claiming that it may suppress the immune response to disease in mice.

Scientists at the Francis Crick Institute found that consuming a high amount of sucralose, added to hot beverages and found in diet soft drinks, lower the activation of T cells – a type of white blood cell – in animals.
