Have you ever imagined how much energy it takes for a woman to carry a child when she is pregnant? A new study has revealed shocking data in connection to the energy requirement of a pregnant human female. "Reproduction is one of the biggest energy investments that an animal will make," the researchers have said. The study is published in Science.
"Reproduction includes two energy investments—the energy in the offspring and the energy expended to make them. The former is well understood, whereas the latter is unquantified but often assumed to be small," the researchers from Monash University, Australia have said. "Mammals pay the highest reproductive costs (excluding lactation), ~90% of which are indirect."
