The New Orleans Saints have bounced back from their three-game losing streak and beat the Seattle Seahawks at home in a shootout. It was a reverse of previous weeks’ trends, where the offense had to bail the defense out in a close game. They did so without several key pieces on both sides of the ball.
Here are all of the standout performances from the win, both good and bad:
Stud: Taysom Hill
There is no other possible way this could start, other than giving Hill his flowers. The return to the Swiss army knife role has proven to be a great thing for this offense. He just impacts the game in so many ways. The Saints likely don’t win this game without his efforts: 112 rushing yards, 3 rushing touchdowns, 22 passing yards, a passing touchdown, 69 kick return yards, a fumble recovery and a game-clinching block on a first down run. Insanity.
Dud: CB Paulson Adebo
Since returning from injury, we really haven’t seen the Adebo from last year. He got eaten up for lunch by these Seahawks receivers. It’s clear that he’s in a bit of a sophomore slump. He tackled well, but gave up far too many big plays and touchdowns in coverage. With Alontae Taylor out, the Saints have no option but to let him work through his struggles.
Stud: LB Pete Werner
The sophomore linebacker has been one of the most consistent players on the entire team this season. He saved many plays from being busted today, ending with seven tackles. His biggest play of the day was the forced fumble he caused on DK Metcalf. He has proven to be an A+ draft pick.
Dud: Player Health
After the offseason hype of this receiving corps, the Saints were without four of their top five receivers in this game. That combined with Winston being out really put this offense into a hole early. Rookie stud WR Chris Olave suffered a scary concussion on his second touchdown catch of his career. Marshon Lattimore also left the game early. The Saints have a very tough matchup next week against the Cincinnati Bengals, will need some players back.
Stud: Pete Carmichael
We’ve given Pete Carmichael slack all year long, so it’s only fair to point out when he has a great day. He reached into his bag and pulled out a near play-calling masterclass with his back against the wall. His plan for Hill worked to perfection, calling on the pass play at a perfect time. His use of Kamara was also perfect as well. It was a very promising day for the future of this offense.
Dud: RB Mark Ingram II
Another week with Mark Ingram in the dud column, unfortunately. It’s gotten to the point where the Saints may need to keep looking for a more reliable backup running back or at least change the way he’s used. He’s not being maximized so far. They found something good with Latavius Murray, but he immediately got poached.
