Students protest again, urge VC for online exam format

NAGPUR: As the Nagpur University administration failed to reach any decision on the mode of summer examinations, members of the students wing of the Nationalist Congress Party staged protests for a second time in front of NU’s new administrative complex on Monday.

Led by president Rudra Dhakade, the protesters later met vice-chancellor Subhash Chaudhari and apprised him of how students were in a confused state of mind on account of contrasting news regarding the exams.

Reiterating their demand for online papers, they said there was no point in insisting on the offline mode, as Covid-19 cases have again started surging in Delhi and other areas.

“The examinees would still be at threat until the deadly virus is completely eradicated. Outstation students would also face problems in travelling all the way to the city just for the exams, which would be conducted in the peak summer.”

Citing TOI reports of education minister Uday Samant entrusting universities to decide on online/offline exams format as per the prevailing situation, the activists requested Chaudhari to conduct the exams in online format this year, as the students are not prepared for the pen-and-paper format.

“Offline papers would lead to academic disaster and examinees would be ultimate sufferers,” said the protesters, including Milind Gawande, Akash Singh Chaudhary, Vishwavjit Tiwari, Hrithik Mudaliar, Danish Hussain and others.

NU replaces PRO after harassment case

NU has replaced media coordinator Rajendra Pathak after the harassment case rocked the institution. The administration has appointed former head of NU mass communication department Dharmesh Dhawankar as the new media coordinator, who will be having an additional charge, as per NU officials.

Pathak confirmed to TOI that he has stopped attending NU office after Dhawankar’s appointment. “After I received the information on WhatsApp, I am not attending the office,” he said.
