Student who thought she had freshers' flu is diagnosed with blood cancer

A student who thought she had freshers' flu was left stunned to find she had blood cancer. Zara Barton initially put her itchy skin down as a stress rash.

She first started to notice the symptoms of the itchy skin, a persistent cough, weight loss and a hard 2cm lump below her neck last February and put them down to her "typical student lifestyle" and the stress of an "upsetting break-up". The 19-year-old fashion marketing and branding student was prescribed creams and antihistamines by doctors.

When the hives became "unbearable" she pushed for answers. It was in November last year that she was diagnosed with stage three Hodgkin Lymphoma.
